Use This Rule To Take Control Your Life And Stay Motivated

Do you feel like you are in control of all aspects of your life or do you feel helpless and you have to live with how things are?

Take control of your life

In this article, we will understand an interesting concept called the Locus rule and how to take control of your life.

What is Locus of Control?

The Locus rule or Locus of control is the degree to which people believe that they as opposed to external forces have control over the outcome of events in their lives.

What are two types of Locus of Control?

The locus of control could be an internal locus of control or an external locus of control.

What is Internal Locus of Control?

When an individual believes that events in their life are primarily dependent on their own actions. Such a person is said to have a strong Internal Locus of Control.

People with a strong Internal Locus of Control attributes their success to their own efforts and capabilities.

For example, if the person starts a business and fails, then they will take full responsibility for the outcome of their actions. Most likely, they will realize that they will need to improve their skills and knowledge before giving it another try.

People with a strong Internal Locus of Control are always excited about trying new things and they always stay self-motivated. They do not rely on external factors for motivation.

Hence it is very important to develop an Internal Locus of Control.

What is External Locus of Control?

Similarly, when an individual believes that their life is under control of external factors that they cannot influence. It is known as External Locus of Control.

People with a strong external locus of control tend to praise or blame external factors that are outside their influence. For example, the person who starts a business and fails, then such persons would blame the economy, market situation or competition, etc.

Now, it's important to realize here that if you're blaming external things in your life, then you will never ever succeed. You need to stop exhibiting external locus of control.

For this purpose, it is important for everyone to start taking responsibility for everything that is happening in their lives.

Once you accept full responsibility, you will be able to start to control every area of your life - be it your business, relationships, health, or fitness.

All it takes to get started is to shift your mindset and accept that you are responsible for where you are right now.

And with that responsibility comes the power, confidence, and drive to shape your life the way you want.

Let's take a look at some of the major areas which can enable you to take control of your life.

1. Control your finances

Like it or not but money has a strong influence on every aspect of your life. And therefore this is something that you definitely want to control.

Do you want to educate yourself? Do you want to have better tools to work on your projects? Do you want to travel? All this is only possible when you have money.

So let's take a look at a few simple steps that you can take in order to start controlling your finances:

Maintain a Budget

To stay on top of your financial game You need a system that enables you to control it. And the best way to do that is to keep a budget.

A budget is a visual representation of what is happening with your money. when and how much will be coming in and going out if you want to get started with the budgeting then you can check out the link at the end of this article to get a budget template that I use to maintain my budget.

Reduce expenses

Once you create your new budget, you'll have to update it with information about your monthly income and expenses. This is a great opportunity to review your expenses each month and see if you can reduce them to the minimum.

See if you can get a better deal on your bills by changing your internet provider, or maybe you have subscriptions that you don't use anymore.

Increase income

saving money will only help you to some extent but if you want to improve your finance, then you will have to look into ways how you can increase your income.

This can be done by working overtime at your current job or if that's not possible. Then you can get a part-time job or pick up some freelance projects.

In the long term, you should be thinking about how to increase your value by educating yourself or starting your own business.

2. Control your body

The next thing that you absolutely want to control is your body.

How you look will determine how you feel and how much confidence you have. It is also a major factor you need to consider if you want to take control of your life.

Your confidence will give you the motivation to work towards the goals that you have set for yourself.

How to control your body?

Do exercise regularly

Running Exercises

This is not just about hitting the gym. It's about general exercises, like running, cycling, swimming and other types of an active lifestyle.

Exercise will not only help you to lose fat but also increase your energy levels, reduce stress, and make you feel good overall.

Make sure that you include some sort of exercise in your weekly schedule so that you can reap the benefits.

Eat healthy food

The food that we consume has a huge influence on our performance and productivity. So we have to make sure that we are doing our best for ourselves. If you want to lose weight or gain muscle the nutrition is the number one component that will help you to do it.

Setting up a meal plan and following it is easy, it's not only going to help you control how your body looks but it will also save your time to decide what to cook for the day.

Quality Sleep

Many people underestimate the benefits of a good night's sleep. They sacrifice their sleep to squeeze in extra work, and then they wonder why they work on the project for 12 hours while others get it done in eight hours.

You will have to give your body enough rest and you'll see in a couple of day's time how your productivity and performance will improve.

3. Control your mindset

Mindset

The final component that is really important to control, is your mindset.

Mindset influences your life to a great extent. Mindset determines how you think about the problems in your life.  Whether you would avoid them or face them head-on. It is always said - "What consumes your mind, controls your life".

Here are some ideas to focus on:

Change your perspective

Sometimes, to change how you feel and your emotional state, all it takes is the change your perspective on how you see it.

For example, losing a job might seem like a disaster at first but it can motivate the person to start their own business that they always wanted to do.

When you change your perspective you'll be able to see the things that you didn't know existed before.

Focus on things that you can control

One mistake that many people do is that they focus on the things that they can't control and that can lead to wrong expectations and causing disappointment later.

Don't just hope and wish that you'll get a promotion in your department. instead, put in the efforts and work towards it.

For example, if you want a publisher to publish your book, then focus on writing the best book that you can as that will increase your chances to succeed.

Be grateful

We often forget what we have and what we have achieved because we're always busy with the next thing.

Take a moment every day to reflect on the good things. Make it a daily habit to write down three things that you are grateful for. Say to yourself that because of your own efforts you were able to achieve what you wanted.

Believe that you are in control of your destiny and you would see you will never have issues with motivation in your life.

Appreciating your achievements - this simple act will give you more control in your life.

What happens when you take control of your life?

You stop asking for permission when you take control of your life. You stop asking individuals to sign on to the life you want to lead.

Before making your decisions, you stop seeking validation and you don't expect everyone to approve them.

Your expectations from yourself increase to optimum level while you don't expect anything from others. You become self-reliant.
