Presentations are mostly created on short notice and if you are required to create an interactive quiz in PowerPoint manually, then you will need a lot of time. 

Today we will create an interactive quiz quickly with features such as a leaderboard and real-time input in PowerPoint using the Mentimeter Addin. Mentimeter offers a free plan for an audience of fewer than 50 participants per month.

How to use Menti in PPT

Step 1: Open the PowerPoint Application on your desktop

Step 2: Click on Addins in the top right and search for Mentimeter

Step 3: Once the search result appears, click on Add next to the search result to add the Mentimeter to your PowerPoint application.

How to Sign up for Mentimeter

Step 4: Log in with Mentimeter account credentials or if you do not have a Mentimeter account, click on signup.

If you click on signup, then click on Login and you will be taken to the Mentimeter webpage to create the account. You will be given a code which you should copy and paste back into the Mentimeter Addin screen in the PowerPoint.

Step 5: Once you log in, click on the New Menti button to get started.

Step 6: Click on the Select Answer button

Step 7: To type the question text and answer options, click on the Content button in the right side panel. If the right side panel is not visible, hover the mouse cursor on the right side of the slide.

Step 8: Type in the first question and the answer options. Click on the check before the answer option to mark the correct answer.

Step 9: Insert a new blank slide in PowerPoint. On the Home Ribbon Tab, click on Addins in the top right and click on Mentimeter for Powerpoint Addin that appears below it under My Addins.

Step 10: Click on the Leaderboard button in the panel.

Step 11: Once the Leaderboard is inserted, hover to get the right side panel if it is not visible.

Step 12: Click on the Design button in the right panel. Turn off the Show vote instructions and Show QR Code. These options are required only on the first slide when we ask the audience to join the quiz. For all subsequent slides, we should turn it off.

Step 13: Insert a new blank slide in PowerPoint. On the Home Ribbon Tab, click on Addins in the top right and click on Mentimeter for Powerpoint Addin that appears below it under My Addins.
 
Follow steps 6 to 10 to add more questions and leaderboards. Each new question and leaderboard should be placed on the new slide. For every slide that you create after the quiz slide, make sure you turn off the Show vote instructions and Show QR Code options in its design settings as shown in step 12.

The quiz should always end with a leaderboard slide. the leaderboard slide becomes the final leaderboard slide which shows the winner of the quiz.
 
Step 14: Once you have added all the question slides and leaderboard slides, it's time to run the slide and test the interactive quiz. 
 
Click on the Slide Show tab in the Ribbon and click on the From Beginning button.

Step 15: You will be presented with the screen as shown below. Click on the Start Menti Button

How to Join Menti Quiz?

On your mobile device open the URL - menti.com and enter the code as shown in the slideshow. Or you can scan the Mentimeter QR Code to open the URL on your mobile device.

When you open this during the live session, this is a slide on which you should wait for the participants to join. 

 
Step 17: Click on Start Quiz in the slide show on your desktop. The first question will be shown on the mobile device and also on the slideshow on the desktop.

After the time for the question is over the right answer will be displayed on the slideshow along with the counts of participants that answered the question and also on the mobile device of participants.

Step 18: To display the leaderboard move to the next slide. The leaderboard will be shown on the slideshow screen

Step 19: To show the next question, move the slideshow to the next slide and click on Start Quiz when ready.

Once you reach the last leaderboard, the final winner will be declared.

Step 20: The quiz ends after this final leaderboard slide. You can move on to any other content slide after this. 

You won't be able to run the quiz again in the same session and if you return back to the quiz slides they will display the results of the quiz that recently concluded. To run the quiz again for a different audience, you must reset the quiz. 

To reset the quiz, come out of the slideshow mode, and click on any quiz slides. In the right side panel, click on the Settings button and then Manage results.

There are some points to note when you Create Interactive Quiz in PowerPoint

You cannot select and delete interactive elements directly when you create Interactive Quiz in PowerPoint

You cannot directly delete any add-in elements placed on the slide. To delete them click on the element. You will see a small arrow to the right, click on it. You would then get the option to delete the element.

Content not part of the quiz

You can insert any other content slides before the first quiz slide or after the last leaderboard slide. If you insert any other slide in between the quiz slides they will display during the quiz, which is not an ideal scenario. This is only ideal when the slide is related to the quiz. For example, you want some content slide in between to share some details about the question that was displayed on the previous slide.
