Elon as a child was influenced from the Sci-Fi novel - Foundation series, written by Isaac Asimov who is an American writer and professor of Biochemistry. This novel offer a form of science called psycho history in which the researcher predicts future societal event and catastrophes by studying patterns of the past. It's possible that Musk's interest in space exploration technology developed by reading this scientific fiction series.

At the age of 15, he was bullied severely by many of his classmates since he was the youngest and the smallest kid in class for years. This led him to take a step away from his studies and pursue Karate and Judo training in order to defend himself. At the age of 17, Elon left South Africa to attend further education at Queen's University in Ontario, Canada. After pursuing double graduation in economics and in physics, he  joined University of Pennsylvania to study business and physics. In 1995, he enrolled in for PhD in energy physics/materials science at Stanford University in California but dropped out after two days to pursue a business career.

It was that time when internet was new and booming. Just like Internet took attention of worldwide people, it too took attention of Elon. In 1995, Elon along with his brother Kimbal Musk founded their first company Zip2 Corporation that would provide a content related to online city guide for the new websites of The New York Times and the Chicago Tribune. By 1998, the company had partnered with about 160 newspapers to develop guides to cities, either locally or at full scale. According to chairman and founder Elon Musk, twenty of those newspapers led to full-scale city guides. At the age of 28 years old, he sold Zip2 company to PC-maker Compaq Computer for $307 million.

If some other person got that much money, he will spend it mostly on luxuries but Elon invested the money in his new venture x.com that later merged with an American software company named Confinity - later as PayPal. This website offered an online money transfer service via email. Elon Musk was the company's largest shareholder with over 11% that would bring him roughly 165 million alone. With this amount he founded another venture which was more closer to his heart "SpaceX". It is believed that, it's his interest in space exploration and his vision of colonizing Mars and living on Mars led him to establish new company that would design, manufacture and launch the world's most advanced rockets and spacecraft that is being supplied to NASA. As of now,  SpaceX  has became the first ever private company that will launch a manned flight to ISS (International Space Ship) that is supposed to take off in May 2020.
After founding SpaceX, Elon had his sights on the motor industry and hopped on board with Tesla Motors in the year 2003. Since Tesla was bankrupt, Elon didn't missed the opportunity and invested. In 2015, Tesla got famous for purely battery-operated plug-in electric cars and one of the world's most popular and coveted car brands. In an interview, Elon Musk said, “If something is important enough you should try even if the probable outcome is failure.” If you care about something, you should put every effort into following your dreams. At the same time, be ready in case it doesn’t work out. It’s easier to recover from a failure if you already have a backup plan. There’s no crystal ball for success.
